Digital archive used in media is a basic element in workflow of every material. Used in hardware archive (disk arrays, tape libraries, data-movers, transcoding servers, Quality Check) in combination with a suitable software, it enables full management of storage materials, i.a. creating backups and low quality copies, defining type of materials (disk, tape).
Digital archives enable to specify the time of material's existence on each data carrier (implementing rules of Hierarchical Storage Management). Another essential feature of a digital archive which store audio/video materials is a possibility to easy reproduce entirely or partly (EDL) archived materials to defined receivers (playout, assembly stations, transcoders, external customers)
